My Umuma
60.5x211 cm, cotton fabric and yarn, scrim, wood dowel.
White agate stones are believed to protect a young mother during her pregnancy, but are specifically thought to enhance milk production for her newborn. Women were inclined to wear the stones during those months. This piece is a textile reconstruction of a white agate stone that mimics the lines and effects of the different tones and shades of white. The artwork is intended to exude a soft, natural and organic feel, an interpretation of motherhood.
